The Challenge
A Japanese technology company with government-investment backing sought an acquisition in China. Targets had to meet strict requirements for capital, business scale, regional coverage and business concentration. The search also had to remain confidential, while establishing which owners were genuinely willing to engage.
Our Approach
We combined our Greater China enterprise database with public and commercial sources to build an initial pool of 100 companies. We screened for business fit and relevant company characteristics, then approached controlling owners through appropriate business channels. Preliminary conversations tested their interest before any NDA or formal transaction discussions.
The Outcome
The search produced seven closely matched companies with confirmed willingness to continue discussions. The client could focus subsequent negotiations and specialist due diligence on a smaller, more credible target pool, reducing time spent on unsuitable or unwilling counterparties.
