The Challenge

A US-registered PE / SPAC fund sought acquisition targets in China’s health and retail sectors within a limited decision window. Financial profiles and market positions alone could not establish whether a target was actionable. The client needed early clarity on access to controlling owners and their willingness to discuss a transaction.

Our Approach

We used multiple commercial databases to build and screen a target pool against financial characteristics, business fit and accessibility. Preliminary conversations with controlling owners tested their interest in a transaction or strategic cooperation. Formal financial verification remained with specialist accountants at the subsequent due diligence stage.

The Outcome

The client could prioritise high-potential targets with a more credible basis for engagement. Filtering out companies without genuine interest preserved time for formal negotiations and professional due diligence, with a clearer order of priority within the fund’s decision window.
